Somewhere, someone decided that there was a gap between the rather cheap point and shoot automatic cameras and the cameras a bit 'more sophisticated digital SLR used by many professional photographers. The most important feature that separates the two cameras were zooming. So was born the ultra-zoom, zoom digital cameras or extended. I am a bit 'bigger to carry around, but usually the sport has improved significantly slower than the compact and ultra compactpoint and shoot. Also, do not require lugging around a case of change of support around, as do many of the SLR cameras.
With up to 20x optical zoom, these cameras are impressive, and may be the perfect camera for certain situations. Like when you show up late for the wedding, and get stuck behind in the pews. With these cameras you will be able to still get great shots of the bride and grooms big kiss, without being mistaken for an officialWedding Photographer. As a general note, for all these cameras, image stabilization is a must-have, unless you happen to have the Rock Steady hands of a surgeon.
Panasonic Lumix FZ28
This Panasonic model has a 18X zoom lens, and goes for about $ 350 or less. the (Intelligent Auto) IA setting works quite well. The auto settings are important targets for many photographers this camera as manual editing is not usually something veryof casual photographers do. Of course, for those who like to make adjustments, the option is there. The LCD is a nice size 2.7 inches. The zoom control seems to be the opposite of what I expected, but after spending some 'time with him, I'm sure more people get used to it.
Canon Powershot SX10 IS
Canon is one of my personal favorite brands, and this camera is one reason. This Canon is comparable in price (about$ 350) for the Panasonic Lumix already reviewed, but with 20x zoom, instead of 18. Even a few die hard owners SLR I've heard, I swear by this camera. A range of targets for 28-560mm is nothing to sneeze a. Especially with the clarity and noise free pictures produced by this camera, even with higher ISO settings. You can of course, better clarity and sharpness of images with a good camera, but your going to spend at least double the price forthere. Not to mention much more gear haul around a camera. The other nice thing about this camera is the ability to capture video files, even if they were a bit 'darker. Mov Apple.
Olympus SP-565 UZ
You should be able to find this Olympus under $ 300 these days. Which is pretty good, considering the quality of the 20x zoom lens that comes with it. Some argue that is the successor of somebotched Olympus SP565UZ. This is a much better camera, a little 'lighter, and includes both an automatic zoom and auto focus function. The zoom is a joy to work with, and characteristics in some way advance face recognition, and shadow adjustments work as advertised. It has a cool feature called pre-acquisition, which I suppose, is the poor mans answer to the burst mode offered by many high-priced SLRs. It 'basically allows you to capture up to 10 pictures in rapid succession, and then choose the ones youwant to keep.
