Choosing a digital camera - Seven major camera functions

Choosing a digital camera can be very confusing because of all the camera functions that are available. However, there is a logical way to make your way through all the choices.

Probably the first thing to consider is what you want to spend. The price range is enormous and is more likely able to find one that fits within your budget. From the simplest of cameras less than one hundred dollars to more advanced digital cameras that run manythousands of dollars, there is a camera out there for everyone.

Point and Shoot cameras are generally less expensive than DSLR cameras. However, this is not a strict rule in the market today. Intro DSLR decreased price points and Shoot cameras and can be very sophisticated.

The main difference is that a digital SLR camera interchangeable lenses, while a point and shoot camera is the camera. So the goal is to purchase aPoint and Shoot camera and lens you get. Period. So one of the most important things if you buy a camera and Shoot is the quality of the lens and you will do what it wants, for wide angle or zoom features.

As far as other features go, here are some basic options that are offered.

Amount of megapixels

Many cameras now offer 10MP or more. A large amount of megapixels is a good option if you wantbe printing large prints or do a fair amount of cropping.

Optical Zoom

The higher the number of optical zoom, the more you will be able to focus and shoot a subject. 3x optical zoom lens can vary by up to 24x.

Shutter speed

shutter speed (high numbers) are guide advantageous if you are shooting moving objects, such as sports, birds, etc. An example of high speed is 1/2000th of a second.

ISOSettings

High ISO settings are typically used when you take pictures in dark or dimly lit situations. Here is where the quality of camera is important. Just because a camera has a very high ISO setting does not mean that the captured image will be noise-free. The noise is very small specifications that appear in a photo. If this is important to you (take pictures in dark areas), be sure to buy a camera that produces quality photos even at high ISOsettings.

Scene modes

If you want things to be very automatic, make sure the camera you are considering has a lot of scene modes, where you can set the camera to shoot right, for example, sports. The camera automatically performs settings.

LCD

This is the view screen on the camera. Generally ranges from 2 to 3 inches in size ... the bigger the better. Some cameras offer this with or without an electronic viewfinder, which is the small opening, when you look through the definition of a stroke.

Flash

Automatic flash used to work for a given distance. If you are shooting in situations where you must use flash, controls the distance the camera flash to make sure that work well for you.
